Traeger smoking

Hot weather is upon us and I have been ready to do some outside cooking. For many years I have been using a Traeger smoker for outdoor grilling. I am not here to tell you what the best choice is but rather share why I like the Traeger over other options, though gas and charcoal have their benefits too. First big benefit is being very forgiving on newbies because of the ease of use and lower chance to char the food. The starting process is ensuring there is enough wood pellets, turn to smoke on the dial, wait till smoking, and turn dial to desired temp setting. I have done a variety of food; fish, pork, burgers, etc using smoke setting to high. Burgers turn out good without any char or burntness if you do not like that, plus it seems difficult to over cook them unless you leave them on for a very long time then maybe. Same with hot dogs and bratwurst allowing them to stay hot while BBQ guests trickle in. Then you can step it up a notch for time commitment going for a smoked brisket or prime rib. Either way having a grill that can smoke or cook high and in-between is nice to have. Mentioned checking the wood pellets, these are the fuel it uses to burn. Traeger makes their brand and of course many other brands are out there. Choices of wood used such as hickory or cherry are more options to consider when diving deep into the grilling hobby. I have found hickory and a mix from Costco I use most often, but I'm also not heavy into that aspect. The price is a bit higher on initial investment which is one of the downsides to weigh. You can look at QVC for some options and good packages, really beneficial if you have the ability to easy pay through them. Amazon has a few options and accessories if you prefer looking that way. No matter you choice of style or where you buy from I think you will be happy with the purchase. Couple tips to note. Clean out the grill basin and pot once in a while, which can vary on your use, for me its about a dozen uses. Cover the drip pan inside with foil for easy clean up, you can even add multiple layers and peal off the top layer when needed. Overall I like the ease of use for temp control, cooks well with lower chance to overcook, and ability to use multiple techniques. Thank you for taking the time to read and hope your dad game levels up.
